So when we were over in Scotland we went to Vienna in Austria, Budapest in Hungary and Bratislava in Slovakia.
Vienna was so cool. It is the city of art. Everywhere you look there is something beautiful to see. From the high fashion to the architecture to the palace. The palace was so beautiful. In some rooms the walls were about 4 foot deep. They had corridors through the walls so that the staff could stoke the fires without disturbing the residents. They had these enormous porcelain masterpieces in each room that radiated heat from a fire within. Very cool and beautiful. The city is very cosmopolitan. It was raining a lot while we were there. We stayed in a little hostel and ate in a wee place around the corner owned by an older couple. They had the best food and treated you like you were visiting their home.
Budapest really is east meets west. It is a crazy place. I could not make head nor tail of it. It is such a mixture of things. They were under communistic rule for about 50 years too. The people are distinctive in Hungary. It seems like they keep themselves to themselves until you open to them. Then they become the warmest people around. Community and looking out for one another was a clear message being sent out. This is the city of the poor and the rich, the old and the new, the broken down and the all done up. Very cool.
Bratislava was a nice little rest. We walked the streets, visited the castle and ate pub grub at the local tavern. The hostel here was just like a hotel from home. We held hands by the time we got to Bratislava. I think we had forgotten we were a couple with the twins around. It was nice to have Drew all to myself.
Welcome
